How to clean a dirty aquarium

A fresh water fish tank requires about 30 minutes to an hour of work a week depending on the size of the tank. Waht you will need: 1) You will need a clean 5 gallon bucket that has never had chemicals or soap inside of it. 2) A hose or gravel cleaner 3) A bag of natural or synthetic sea salt I have split the work into two parts the tank which needs to be cleaned ever week on the same day and the filters which can be cleaned every 2 or 3 weeks. The very first thing you have to do before you start cleaning your fish tank is to unplug your tanks heater if you have one. The heater can not be allowed to be removed from the water while it is hot so make sure to leave it unplugged at least 20 minutes before attempting to remove it. The water help cool the glass on the heater if removed it could crack, or the glass could totally shatter. You should also remember to never stick your hand inside of any fish tank before making sure the heater is not only off but unplugged from the wall. A small crack in the heater could be more then enough to cause a shock to you that can be fatal. After the heater has ha time to cool you can safely remove the heater from the tank or it the heater is submersible you can just push it down to the bottom of the tank. Now take any decorations you may have placed in the tank, so all you have are the small gravel at the bottom, this will allow you to get any dirt that those decorations may have been covering up. Now if you do not have a gravel cleaner you are going to have to roll up your sleeves and get your hands wet. You will need to stir up the gravel to get the dirt that has settled between the gravel into the water, and start removing the water into the bucket with the hose. Do not throw out the water you will still need it to clean the filters. If you have a gravel cleaner, push the plastic tube into the gravel until it hits the bottom of the tank, then start a siphon into the bucket, every second or 2 move the gravel cleaner over an inch or 2 and repeat this process until either you have removed 15 percent of the tanks water of you have cleaned all the gravel. Now at this point you can clean the Aquariums filters. The insides of the filters are used to grow bacteria, that help break down the nitrites and nitrates that are in the water from fish waste and uneaten food. To make sure we don’t kill all these Aquarium friendly bacteria, we clean the filter materials and sponges in the dirty water that I also full of the bacteria. Take everything out of the filters and rinse them of in the bucket of dirty Aquarium water, then give the sponge a couple of squeezes in the bucket and reassemble the filters, and put them back on the tank. Now before adding the water sea salt must be added to the tank. All water has some amount of salt in it and to replicate the natural habitat of the fish there must be salt in your tank as well. Add approximately 1 cup of sea salt for every 50 gallons of water. Now you can add water to the tank, but you must make sure the water is the within a degree or two of the temperature of the water in the tank. A drastic change in the tanks temperature suddenly can throw the fish into shock and kill them or weaken their immunity and help give them a fish disease. I recommend filling the bucket with hot water and checking it regularly till it is the same as the tanks temperature, then slowly add the water to the tank, start the filters and the heater. Cleaning the filters only needs to be done once or twice a month, but the water in the tank must be cleaned on the same day every week.

After school safety tips

In today’s fast-paced world, numerous children care for themselves prior to, or after, the first school bell of the day rings. After school, roughly one in five students from kindergarten to eighth grade, weekly spend time in self-care at least once during every week. Before allowing your child to spend time at home alone, you should: Remember that you are still your child’s “boss,” even while you are away. Decide if after-school care is available Learn how your child feels about being home alone: Determine if your child can independently solve problems and follow directions Calculate the duration of time your child would be alone Contact your local law-enforcement agency to determine cases and varieties of crime in your neighborhood Create specific rules for your child to follow while he or she is home alone Provide information to your child about what to do during emergencies, and how you can be contacted You may also consider the latest child safety products from a child safety store, which could help to constantly keep your child at home, safe. After determining to let your child spend time home alone, make sure to provide him or her with important information. To begin with, your child should have certain information and be prepared for emergencies. Your son or daughter should know his or her complete name, address, and phone number. Children should also know exact information about their parent or parent’s workplace, and how to contact them. Prior to children even arriving home, they should take precautions. They must never take shortcuts home and never play or walk alone while returning home. Teach your child that if he or she is being trailed, to spin around, dart in the opposite direction, and go to select locations for emergencies. Also, keys should be hidden and secure when toted. After children arrive home, it is vital that their homes remain secure. After entering the house, the door must be locked immediately. They should only allow people who they know well and who you have previously approved, in the house. Your child should examine the home before entering it, looking for opened entry points. If something looks amiss, they should call for help from another safe location. Next, your child should always lock the door after entering and make sure the house is secure. Child safety products from a child safety store can further assure that your child is safe at home. Lastly, while at home, your child should use the phone to increase security. He or she should check in via phone immediately after returning home. If someone calls for you while your child is home alone, the child should inform the caller that you are unavailable, and not absent. Finally, your child should be aware of how to make emergency phone calls, such as 911. After school, children have activities to select from, to keep them occupied. If they must spend time at home alone, consider child safety products from a child safety store, to help them to spend it safely.

Protect yourself from identity theft as an online degree candidate

As degree candidates in standard programs there is campus training every semester on personal safety and how to get around campus at night. As an online degree candidate you do not have those concerns but you do have identity theft. Identity theft is a huge and growing proliferating problem. What is fairly new however, is the danger is poses to online degree candidates. Yes, your records and degree are in danger of being stolen. Here's how to protect yourself. What is identity theft? Identity theft occurs when someone steals your identity and impersonates you in order to obtain student loans or other forms of financial aid. Fraudulent credit card accounts could be opened or other criminal acts committed using your identity. You may not know when it happens. One day you may be turned down unexpectedly for a loan, get a call from a collection agency about an account you never opened or worse yet, a call from the police about a crime you didn't commit. Suddenly you are a victim of identity theft. What are the effects of identity theft? On average, identity theft is not discovered until 14 months after the crime has occurred. By this time, the thief has wreaked havoc on the victim's credit rating. Victims might spend months or even years regaining their credit worthiness. In the meantime, the victims find it difficult to obtain loans, get a job, an apartment, or even write checks. How does identity theft happen? Criminals steal personal information, such as Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, ATM card numbers, telephone calling card numbers and other key pieces of personal data and use them to impersonate their victims. After assuming your identity, they will quickly move to spend or borrow as much money as they can before moving on to their next victim. Methods with which criminals gain access to your identity online: Pose as your bank or utility company needing to “update their records” Grab information off Internet sites that are not secure Once the thief has this information, they may open a new credit card account or apply for financial aid using your identity and their address. Chances are, you will be unaware that any of this has taken place until the bills go unpaid. The creditor then reports the delinquency to your credit file. How do I protect myself from identity theft? Prevention is the first step in battling identity theft. To minimize the risk of someone’s stealing your identity and the hassle of cleaning up the aftermath, follow these guidelines: - Be very careful in giving out your credit card, social security number, bank accounts and other information online. - Do not give personal information or account numbers to anyone claimig to be from your degree program until you have confirmed the identity of the person requesting the information and verified that you need to provide them with the information. - Know what type of student financial aid you are applying for (e. g. loans, grants) and the amounts of the aid awarded. Make sure the amount is promptly credited to your school account. - Immediately report the suspected theft or loss of a key identification document such as a driver's license, passport or Social Security card to the issuing agency. What should I do if I become a victim of identity theft? First, contact the fraud department of each of the three major credit bureaus. Request that a "fraud alert" be placed on your credit file. This alert will warn creditors to be especially careful in authenticating the identity of anyone claiming to be you. This means you cannot obtain instant credit, a minor inconvenience in light of the damage identity theft can do. File a report with your local police department and make sure to get a copy. Contact each credit grantor who has opened a fraudulent account to let them know that you are not the person responsible for opening the account. Have them close these accounts. If you open new accounts, make sure to place passwords on them. Call the Identity Theft Toll-free Hotline at 1-877-438-4338. This is the central point of contact within the federal government for reporting incidents of identity theft. Remember to close the accounts that you know or believe have been tampered with or opened fraudulently. If someone has stolen your identity and you are concerned about your AES-guaranteed loans or grants, or are suspicious about student financial aid granted under your identity, you may contact AES Investigative Services at 717-720-2740, or via email at: investigativeservices@aesSuccess. org. Discover cary illinois and cary real estate

Summer Fun for Kids in Cary While driving home after a long day last week I turned the corner onto my street and suddenly had to come to a quick stop. There were at least twenty kids under the age of twelve playing in front of my house. It struck me how lucky a kid is to grow up in Cary IL . There is so much for them to do here in the summer. Cary is surrounded by nature and McHenry County has been smart enough to put aside a huge amount of preserved land. The park district here is incredible. They have so many activities for kids it is hard to decide what to pick. Horse back riding, swimming, drama, dancing, and soccer are just a few. Also, they have play groups for the younger kids and Mommy and me activities. If you are looking for a summer camp you can go to RRR Felpro conserved land where they have a camp with a pool that is surrounded by walking trails through the woods and a lake for fishing. The park district has a community pool located next to the Village Hall. It is a very popular spot as things heat up. I have even seen people water skiing on the Fox River. Cary and the surrounding areas have many playgrounds which most of them have been added recently with the boom of new construction. I think that it is safe to say that as we head into Summer there will be some happy kids in Cary. If you are thinking about moving away from the hectic pace of a big city but still enjoy the relatively close proximity to Chicago and the airports, Cary is exactly what the doctor ordered. Home prices range from the $150s to the $400s making them extremely affordable for the area. The homes tend to be 10 to 15 years in age but there is also a surge of new construction going on. The schools are excellent with small class sizes and plenty of after-school programs. The Cary IL real estate market moves quickly but at a much more reasonable pace than the nearby market of Chicago. To get started on your home search or just learn more about Cary, you need to start looking at the Illinois MLS. You can search for all types of real estate not just in Cary but for such markets as Arlington real estate or Schaumburg or even the greater Chicago area. Enjoy all that Cary Illinios has to offer - make your move to Cary today!
